Britain is famed around the world for its humour and comedy, we have produced some of the greatest shows and comics the world has ever seen. But things seem to have changed of late, great comedians that have put years into their craft, becoming absolute masters of the art, are being passed over by TV executives often in favour of younger, trendier comedians. Of course entertainment needs young blood, but the country is not made up of only young people! Live at the Apollo is a flagship BBC comedy show that is supposed to be showcasing comedy talent from all walks of life, not just those with select agents or management, thats why I'm starting this campaign to get Jeff Innocent on 'Live at the Apollo'.
Many great comics deserve a punt at that show, and Jeff is top of that list! Placed in the top 3 'comedians comic' for the last 3 years in a row, Jeff is the real deal, the genuine article, not a well drawn character. Britain consists of millions of working class people just like Jeff, and they would love to see him on the TV, and as a bonus the beeb wouldn't need to add a laughter track, thus saving a few quid as well! It might even get LATA off BBC2 and back onto prime time BBC1!
Of course LATA has showcased some brilliant comics in the past, no one is denying that, but it needs to be fairer, and a better reflection of real life. The Beeb tries hard to be inclusive, and thats an admirable trait, so why not be fully inclusive? and give space and time to all types of Brits! As a Cockney geezer in a mixed race family, Jeff's material reflects a genuinely diverse UK. So let the Great British licence fee paying public make their own minds up as to what is funny, and lets get that laughter ball rolling!
