Over four decades ago, many brave souls from different corners of the United Kingdom—Scots, Irish, and Welsh—laid down their lives or were forever altered by the Falklands War, a conflict often stereotypically marked as solely English.

Despite playing a significant role in securing the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, these courageous individuals from various UK nations remain overlooked in the narrative surrounding the Falklands. The essence of their sacrifice is at risk of being diluted as the burden and honour of the endeavor are predominantly now attributed to England.

In 1982, the Falklands War was not fought by just one nation within the UK, but by a diverse coalition. Over 30,000 military personnel were deployed, including the Scots Guards and the Welsh Guards, each contributing to the protection and preservation of the Falkland Islands, yet their profound contributions are frequently neglected in historical accounts.

According to the Imperial War Museums, hundreds of soldiers were injured or killed, and many hailed from the Scottish, Irish, and Welsh regiments. Ignoring their sacrifice not only skews historical accuracy but threatens the unity and recognition of all UK nations' roles in past conflicts.

This omission must be corrected. By fairly representing the nationalities of those who served, we can honorably pay tribute to their valour and ensure their rightful place in history. We call upon historians, educators, and institutions to revise their narratives and provide a more comprehensive and inclusive understanding of those who served during the Falklands War.
