The Issue

‘The Muppets Present...Great Moments in American History’ has delighted, entertained, and informed Guests of all ages for years at the Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Due to surging ticket prices and lower attendance, this engaging and important show is slated to close in the beginning of October 2019. True Disney fans know that live entertainment at the Walt Disney World Resort lies at the core of what makes magical moments happen, and these lasting memories will stay with Guests for a lifetime.

As a lifelong fan of The Muppets and of Disney, I was overjoyed to see this addition to Liberty Square at the Magic Kingdom. Seeing the faces of not only the children but of the adults light up with pure joy at the sight of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and Sam Eagle as they would appear in the various windows around The Hall of Presidents reminded me of the astounding impact and resonance these characters have had on children and adults alike over the past sixty years.

Disney and Muppet fandom aside, I am truly concerned with the lack of respect given to the hardworking puppeteers, technicians, and live actors who will lose their positions for the sole purpose of financial cutbacks. These performers and technicians are the heart and soul of the Walt Disney World Resort Entertainment Department, and their hard work and dedication should mean more to the Company than a few extra dollars.

Sign if you love the Muppets. Sign if you love American History. Sign if you love Disney. Sign if you believe that live performers are an integral part of one of the largest entertainment corporations in the world. Sign if you believe the creative integrity of artists should mean more than a few extra dollars in Disney’s pocket.

Thank you.
