Today, I have bad news for our supporters in Australia and Canada. First, there has been word that Disney is shutting down physical media (DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K) distribution in Australia.

Second, Disney Movie Club has announced that they will be shutting down their service in Canada on September 25th.

Even though collectors in the US aren't affected by either of these changes, this is still very bad news as it puts more barriers on collecting Disney physical media and gives us signs of bad things to eventually come.

Given how Disney Movie Club was the only place to get certain backlog titles on physical media due to their exclusive releases, the latter guarantees that any future Disney Movie Club exclusive titles will no longer be available to Canadian residents officially, making them harder to obtain for those who reside in that country.

Unless Disney decides to license Australian physical releases to another label, Australia residents will also have to import future Disney DVD/Blu-ray/4K releases, which will be expensive.

This is why it's more important than ever to continue supporting physical media, especially Disney titles. Continue purchasing your favorite Disney shows and movies on disc, as well as contacting Disney for suggestions for future catalog releases. That way we can fulfill our mission of getting more Disney Channel content released on DVD before Disney decides to end their physical media business altogether.
