You might (or might not) have heard that Disney+ will be adding an ad-supported tier for $7.99/month and increasing the price of the ad-free tier to $10.99/month effective on December 8th, 2022. You can read about it from Disney's official website:
This is one reason why Disney+ should NOT be considered a substitute for physical media, streaming services are more like a substitute for cable TV services in my opinion and this proves this analogy to be more accurate. If you're old enough to remember, certain cable TV channels (including Disney Channel) used to be commercial-free to begin with, then began airing commercials at a certain point, it looks like Disney+ will be taking a similar approach.
Once this change becomes in effect, expect people to do one of three things:
- Accept the price increase and continue being subscribed to ad-free Disney+
- Switch to the ad-supported tier to save money.
- Cancel Disney+ altogether.
If you don't like commercials and plan on cancelling Disney+ once this change occurs and you fear that you'll miss Classic Disney Channel content, now's a great time to give this petition some support to increase the chances of having more Disney Channel Classics on DVD.
