Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
As we slowly creep towards 2,000 signatures, I thought it would be kind of cool to do a social media rampage on the Disney on Broadway and Frozen the Musical pages again. This time, it would be in honor of Black History Month.
I had the pleasure of seeing Aisha Jackson as Anna, and she was fantastic! (Ms. Jackson was the standby for Patti Murin's Anna). She holds the honor of being the first black Anna ever to perform on Broadway. When the news broke out, however, there was much resistance and hate spewed at her and Disney. And the sad thing is Disney didn't defend their casting choice or Ms. Jackson, or any of the other actors of color who performed in their respective roles in the show.
Needless to say, Ms. Jackson's performance has touched the hearts and lives of black girls and women who came to see her perform, myself included.
Now, it's time for us to show our support to Ms. Ciara Renée as the first black Elsa. Here are is a question to consider as you make your posts on Disney on Broadway and Frozen the Musical.
*What does a black Elsa mean for you and your children?
For me, a black Elsa on Broadway signifies strength, confidence, and vulnerability. To see someone look like me represented in this way brings joy and the endless possibilities of being anything I want to be, with no limitations and inhibitions, which speaks volumes to the black community.
This week, get on Disney on Broadway and Frozen the Musical's pages on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook and tell them what a black Elsa means to you. If any of you had the pleasure of seeing Aisha Jackson in Frozen, describe the feelings that came from that and emphasize the importance of seeing a black Elsa in a staged film production form for ALL black girls and women to see.
Keep it up! Let's get to 2,000 by continuing to share the petition and spreading the word.
Sending love and positive vibes your way!
