Bring back Carl on AMC's The Walking Dead

On the mid-season finale of AMC's The Walking Dead, a shocking revelation occurred. Carl, the beloved son of Rick Grimes whom is the main character, has been bitten. Although Carl is not dead yet, it is clear he is dying and will not live to see much longer. This is a big shock for the fans and even the cast because no one expected this. In the comics, in which the show is based off of and heavily relies on for story line, Carl is still alive and not bitten. Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead once said in a interview if Rick were to die, Carl could carry on the series. But now that TV-Carl is dying but comic Carl still alive, this is the biggest departure from the comics we have seen so far! And Carl was a favorite of almost everyone who watched the show, we saw both Carl and Chandler grow up on the show and now Carl is going to be taken away from us for a stupid reason: To show Rick there is a better way to war. This decision ruins a decade long character that had years in the making.... Not to mention comic Carl is still alive currently and in the future as well and a major part of almost every plot line comic wise. In the comics it is seeming that the story line is being written in a way that Rick will meet his end and then Carl will take up position as leader.

Here is a excerpt from Chandler Riggs's exit interview: "In the comics, Scott was trying to figure out why there was a hole between Rick slitting Negan's throat at the end of the "All-Out War" arc and then there's the time jump and Negan is alive and in prison and Rick didn't kill Negan. Scott was trying to figure out how to bridge the gap between Rick not wanting to kill Negan and Rick also really wanting to kill Negan, which he does right now [in the show's story]. Scott's way to get around that was to make Carl this really humanitarian figure and person who could see the good in people and see that people can change and not everyone out there is bad. That's what Carl's talk to Rick was in this episode: there's no way that they can kill every one of the Saviors and not everyone is a bad person and there has to be some way forward than just killing people." ~ Chandler Riggs

Chandler did not chose to leave the show, he was fired two weeks before his 18th birthday by Scott Gimple after the fact Scott said that he wanted him for the next three years but then Scott goes back on his word and has Carl going to meet a early demise that totally could have been avoided and serves not much purpose. And the gap that Scott was trying to figure out in the comics could have been solved so many other ways then Carl being condemned to death by a bite. This has created a divide between the show and the comics and this could possibly lead into future issues between the two concerning plot lines etc.

Now on the other hand, if this served a actual purpose to plot line then it would not be so bad but it doesn't serve anything to the comic plot line which I remind you, AMC's TWD heavily relies on. For example, Glenn Rhee whom met his demise by Negan's bat in the ending of S6 to the very first episode of S7. He was beloved by almost everyone if not all, just like Carl. But his death was in line with the comic Glenn's death. Although Glenn was beloved, this was not as upsetting (still very sad) because Glenn went out the way the original story intended. Which sadly cannot be said for Carl.

"Now AMC and the writers are very great, but I do not agree with how AMC chose to simply abandon the comics and chose a different path concerning Carl's future and all for a not very good reason. This was one of the only few mistakes TWD writers have made and I am sure many fans of The Walking Dead can agree with me on this." ~Marisa Batta-Reu

  • That statement right there I agree with 100%!

Let's get as many signatures as quickly as possible so maybe we can have a way to save our beloved Carl or if not, to show Scott Gimple and AMC we are not happy with their decision to kill off Carl!
