The Ventura County Animal Shelter Should Hire a Full-time Feral Cat Trapper

The Issue

There are 100s of Feral Cats in our County. They procreate behind dumpsters, industrial parks, etc. They die barbarically, diseased, starved, ripped to shreds by coyotes and under your car tires. And their diseases can become your diseases, especially in our Under-served Communities. Unless they are Trapped, Neutered & Released, the problem will grown & continue. Our Shelter refuses to help. They turn them away. So a few over burdened but important volunteers just burn out trying to help.

The is a problem that a civilized society shouldn't have. People of conscience are frustrated and aghast that our County would allow this. The Board of Supervisors needs to take solid and immediate action to get the Shelter to hire full-time Trapper(s). The Department of Health should consider this a priority; it is the underserved communities that are most at risk. The Management of VCAS needs to do more.

The same diseased cat could come in contact with your child. Feral Cats spread Toxoplasmosis, Rabies, Ringworm and Cat Scratch Disease. The Feral Cat Coalition and Debbie Shaver need your help now. There is not enough time or money, already stretched thin by a few volunteers. Taxpayers pay the Shelter Management to do this job, but they aren't. Taxpayers make additional donations that are never accounted for. Taxpayers vote for the Supervisors. Please let them know that this is a social disease that needs to be stopped. Help the Feral Cat Coalition to demand our County Employees do their job and "Trap, Neuter & Release" the feral cats, so they don't keep reproducing and dying hideous deaths.
