The University of Victoria has moved to primarily in person classes for their fall semester, and instead of taking proper precautions, the school has allowed cramped classrooms with no social distancing, despite vaccines not being required.

Additionally, while there are some online classes being offered, the course options are very limited. This, alongside a housing crisis, are leaving many students behind.

Students should not feel uncomfortable going to school.

Hybrid classes would offer students the chance to go to school in person, or choose to partake in classes online. UVic needs to ensure Professors record and post their lectures.

Not only would this allow for students to more easily social distance, and learn from home if they’re more comfortable doing so, while also giving the opportunity for in person socialization through on campus classes, it would also benefit students with disabilities which make coming to school in person difficult, international students who should be able to learn remotely if they choose to, and those involved in the housing crisis, since they’d be able to go home and learn online rather than choosing to be homeless risk losing out on a year of their education.
