Stop the Cuts
Stop the Cuts
The University of Manitoba is calling for 4 percent budget cuts in the 2015-2016 fiscal year and another 4 percent in 2016-2017, along with serious cuts that have already taken place. There is no transparency in this process and the community is unsure of where these cuts will be made.
Based on the information we have there is no evidence to show that the university faces a financial situation that requires budget cuts.
We demand that the University of Manitoba administration stop the deterioration of program offerings, classroom conditions, and support systems, and work to ensure that the university education is made affordable to all.
To this end we demand that University of Manitoba Administration stop the proposed budget cuts and provide the funding to restore the cuts implemented in 2014-2015. We further call for full transparency of university finances and increased public funding for post-secondary education.
We, the undersigned students, staff and citizens, share this demand with students, workers, support staff, and faculty at the University of Manitoba, with representatives from Association of Employees Supporting Education Services (AESES), Canadian Federation of Students-Manitoba (CFS-MB), Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 3909 (CUPE), the University of Manitoba Faculty Association (UMFA), the University of Manitoba Graduate Students’ Association (UMGSA), the University of Manitoba Students’ Association (UMSU), and Unifor Local 3007.
Please share below why stopping these budget cuts matters to you.
