Welcome Hawkeyes!
What’s Happening?
We are thankful for each of YOU. Out of the many lessons learned while living through a pandemic, we are reminded of the incredible value of being a team member. We got through college together - dating, studying, overzealous celebrations (AKA drinking too much), and competing – staying in touch after graduation at random life celebration points. Today, we are a different team than we were back then, but the first people we reached out to when we heard about this were our teammates. And the team is still as connected and strong as ever. We’re united as Hawkeyes, as athletes, and as four Olympic sports. Some of us are parents of affected athletes, many are alumni who competed in other sports. Thank you for bringing your team to this team!
UI Conversations
The focus this past week was on the NCAA requirements. The big news we learned? THE NCAA ACCREDITS A UNIVERSITY, NOT A DIVISION OR DEPARTMENT. That means these sports don’t have to be housed within the Athletic Department, they just have to meet the requirements of being full time and degree seeking students, with specific annual credit and grade point goals, and are eligible to compete.
