Save!!!! The Staffordshire Bull Terrier from becoming the Staffordshire Blue Terrier!!!
The Issue
The Kennel Club current business model is profit before breed. With registrations of Blue Staffordshire Bull Terriers reaching 68% in 2015 the breeds gene pool can no longer sustain a viable balance, endangering all non dilute coloured Staffordshire Bull Terriers to extinction. 2015 there were 3099 Blue pups registered @£16 per pup = £49,584. Compare this to all the other coloured pups registered totalling £22,896 you can see the disparity and the obvious advantage of registrations of Blue dogs to the detriment of the breed.
An immediate cessation of Blue to Blue bred puppy registrations until negotiations are concluded and stabilisation of gene pool is achieved.
Compulsory Health Testing for HC and L-2-HGA (L2 hydroxyglutaric aciduria) as current top used Blue Stud dog is untested for heredity diseases, he has shired 411 pups two of which have been tested and on found to be a carrier HC(hereditary cataracts) This is clearly Profit before the breeds welfare and health.
Not a thought for the rest of the breed that would be listed as endangered under current KC guidelines. This is clearly a profit led decision which has to be stopped before its to late to save this beautiful native breed in all its beauty and colour.
