Dear Supporters,
THANK YOU for signing the 'Double the Dosh' petition. A massive 64, 560 signed the petition calling on government to adequately fund our environmental regulators so they can hold polluters to account. It is through support like yours that we have been raising the river agenda in the media and importantly, in parliament. We’ve taken the petition to political leaders, briefing MPs on YOUR demands. Thanks to you, we've seen the government put in place farm inspectors, increased funding for farm slurry storage and lift the cap on fines to water companies.
Now it’s time to give this wave of action a mighty roar. One that political leaders can’t ignore.
Will you sign our new petition urging Governments to restore our rivers by 2030?
Every river in England is polluted beyond legal limits*. The rest of our UK rivers aren’t faring much better either.
The pressure is growing on politicians to fix this.
At the recent local elections, sewage and agricultural pollution was a major issue**.
Together, we can force those responsible to stop this happening.
Along with over 50 organisations including The National Trust, The Wildlife Trusts, WWF, Soil Association, The Rivers Trust, Angling Trust and many more, we've outlined 10 simple solutions to restore the UK’s freshwaters to health in the first Charter for Rivers.
Now we need your voice behind the Charter to help us demand political leaders rescue our rivers before it’s too late. Join us by adding your name to our petition now.
Most of the media coverage about water quality has been about sewage pollution in the ocean, but waterways inland are being contaminated by a cocktail of agricultural and chemical pollution too. Many UK freshwater species are in a steep decline and already threatened with extinction. We’re about to hit a point of no return for our rivers which will not only impact wildlife but our water security.
We know our campaign work to save our rivers and hold those in power to account is working. Big businesses from water companies to large food producers are now admitting culpability for polluting our waterways thanks to people like YOU speaking up for rivers.
Our rivers deserve a voice. They need you to speak on their behalf and urge Governments and political leaders to act now to stop the freshwater emergency we’re facing.
Together, we can achieve huge things.
Thank you for your support,
Amy and the River Action team
