Excellent podcast about the "Uranium Wars" on Bill Weinberg's Countervortex.org
About 21:15 minutes in he talks about U.S. imports of Russian uranium.
He notes that on August 27 the Washington Post published a Bloomberg story headlined:
"Why the US and Europe Still Buy Russian Nuclear Fuel"
It notes that the U.S. gets a quarter of its enriched uranium from Russia and all the "uranium enriched to higher levels" used in "a new generation of so-called small modular reactors (SMRs)" from Russia.
The government is taking the exact wrong path to deal with this. Instead of phasing out nuclear it's "rebooting the nuclear fuel cycle" to rebuild "North American capacity". President Biden's "clean energy law" included $700 million to develop domestic fuel supplies for advanced reactors."
At 22:32 Weinberg quotes a Russian state news agency report that the U.S. doubled its uranium purchases in 2023 (for the first half of the year) over 2022, the highest level since 2005. Could be propaganda, but Microsoft News quotes the same facts from an outfit called IntelliNews https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/us-uranium-imports-from-russia-more-than-double-in-6m23/ar-AA1gaSiy on Sept 3. I never heard of it before, but here's its Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bne_IntelliNews
Weinberg also talks about the victims in Russia of the nuclear trade, the Buryat, whose lands are being destroyed (just like the Navaho suffered in the U.S.)

I came across this in May "Bill banning uranium imports from Russia passes US House subcommittee". Here's the link: https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/bill-banning-uranium-imports-russia-passes-us-house-subcommittee-2023-05-16/
Again it's from May. Can anyone write to Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers or Rep. Jeff Duncan and see what happened to the bill? Reading the article it sounds like a weak bill giving the president to waiver in all the present trade.
