The Sambio Massacre Must Not Be Forgotten

The Sambio Massacre Must Not Be Forgotten
The issue
The Sambio Massacre of April 26, 2026 has left deep pain and trauma within our communities in Bulolo, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea.
This tragedy is not just another news headline to us. It is personal.
Twelve of the victims who lost their lives were young men known personally to many of us within our community. They were our brothers, friends, neighbors, workmates, and sons. We saw them grow up. We shared daily life with them. Their families are part of our community, and today we continue to grieve alongside them.
According to reports and witness accounts, the violence that occurred at Sambio Village resulted in brutal killings involving dangerous weapons and the loss of multiple lives within less than an hour. Families were left devastated, traumatized, and searching for answers.
As weeks pass, many people remain concerned about delays in arrests, lack of transparent updates, and whether equal justice is being applied fairly and independently.
This petition is not about revenge or promoting division. It is about seeking justice, accountability, transparency, and respect for human life. We believe no family should lose their loved ones in such a violent manner and then be left without clear answers or visible progress toward justice.
The people of Bulolo and affected communities are calling upon the Government of Papua New Guinea, law enforcement authorities, and responsible leaders to ensure that:
- proper investigations are completed,
- all responsible individuals are held accountable under the law,
- illegal weapons connected to the violence are addressed,
- and grieving families receive the support and recognition they deserve.
We also call for peace, lawful dialogue, and long-term solutions to prevent future violence in our communities.
We ask all Papua New Guineans and supporters around the world to stand with us peacefully in support of justice, fairness, and human dignity.
The victims must not be forgotten.
