Petitioning The Russian Paralympic Committee

Add Snowboarding to the 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympic Games

On August 18, 2011 The Russian Paralympic Committee REJECTED a proposal by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the World Snowboard Federation (WSF) to include Para-Snowboard Cross Standing – Men and Women events in the 2014 Sochi Paralympic games.

It was our hope that the inclusion of snowboarding in the 2014 Sochi Paralympic games would create a bases for further development of adaptive snowboarding. Our entire classification system is based on and created by skiers. Only the IPC has the resources to change it.

Did you watch the Paralympic games last year? Neither did I, I was busy snowboarding. Just as we would like to see the IOC take action and address the concerns of snowboarding, we are asking Russia to give snowboarding the chance it deserves.

I am personally signing this petition on behalf of Para-Snowboarding. It is my understanding that you have rejected the International Paralympic Proposal to include Para-Snowboarding Gravity Cross in the 2014 Sochi Paralympic Games.

I disagree with this decision and encourage you to re-consider.

Letter to
The Russian Paralympic Committee
I just signed the following petition addressed to: The Russian Paralympic Committee
Add Snowboarding to the 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympic Games

I have seen what these athletes are capable off. I believe that they deserve the chance to represent their sport in the Paralympic Games and that it would inspire people in Russia and all over the world. I am aware of the efforts you have taken to ensure the XXII Paralympic Winter Games are a success and including Gravity Cross should broadcast that to the world.

Para-Snowboarding has grown from a handful of athletes to over 80 International competitors whom have beaten every odd to participate in the sport they love. There are over 12 countries currently participating in the sport. These include Slovakia, Belgium, Norway, Italy, Spain, and Great Britain.

Para-Snowboarding Gravity Cross is a Paralympic worthy event and their hard work should not be ignored. Last year, MonoSki Gravity Cross in the ESPN Winter X-Games received more exposure than the 2010 Paralympic Games!

What separates Gravity Cross from other events is its broad appeal. Many would agree that MonoSki Gravity Cross is the first adaptive event to grab ahold of a wide audience. This fact alone makes it a necessary addition to the Paralympic Games.
