**STATUS UPDATE**
This morning New Zealand's Ministry for Culture and Heritage launched a breach of the Rāhui (protection) laid on Dove Myer Robinson Park and the ancient Pā site known as Mataharehare-Taurarua.
Private security was engaged by the Ministry to undertake this action.
The peaceful protection of this park is supported by more than 18,000 New Zealanders who have signed this petition (digital and hard copy).
Context for the attempted breach
- Covid Level 3 Lockdown
- Investigation is under way by the office of the Ombudsman into the processes that have led to this outcome
- Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga was cut out by the Ministry's non-notified consent process
- Voices of 18,000 New Zealanders have been ignored
Spirit of peaceful protection
Today's successful peaceful protection of the historic park is thanks to peaceful protectors who came from right across the Auckland isthmus to save their park. To save this taonga for future generations.
