END THE DOLPHIN AND WHALE SLAUGHTER IN FAROE ISLANDS ONCE AND FOR ALL

The Issue

The EU needs to take action and step up. This August, a large oceans nations forum will be held in the Faroe Islands. The focus will be on moving from global words to island actions, providing a platform for further deepening and widening cooperation between Large Ocean Nations. Let’s get as many signatures as we can so we can interfere and make the islands and EU take ownership of the horrors going on. Currently, formal relations in the area of scientific and technological cooperation between the EU and the Faroe Islands are based on the agreement the islands made to Horizon 2020.

The horizon 2020 is the biggest EU research and innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over the past 7 years?! This is absurd! Whatever their key figures are, it makes no logical or ethical sense why they are still considered to be self governed yet are sponsored by the EU and still not included in the union? I smell something corrupted.. I say, we make them accountable! We hold them to the same standard we expect of ourselves! They should be held responsible by the EU and be included as part of their union. If you read the updates you will see the incentive goal and how together, we will tear this system down. One corrupt individual and ideology at a time.

Staring with you... Bárður á Steig Nielsen, is Prime Minister of Faroe Islands and has a responsibility to fulfill and take care of. He’s pretty new in his role so he has plenty of chances and opportunities to clean the slate of his island. He can do what has never been done before and can not overlook this any longer. If he can’t make history and is too scared to make positive change, then other neighboring places needs to step up and apply pressure from all ends. The EU law bans "deliberate capture or killing" of any dolphins or whales, but since the Faroe Islands are not part of the union they do not have to abide by the laws. Wtf? This makes no sense. It’s a lack of accountability and a lack of concern..

The sea is stained in red due to the slaughter of these intelligent Calderon dolphins and Pilot whales. This happens every year in the Faroe Islands. Not once in an x amount of years situation, like media tries to portray. In this slaughter the main participants are young teens as well.

They do this as a celebration of entering into adulthood. Everyone is participating in one way or the other in this "tradition”, either killing or looking at the cruelty, posing to take pics etc..

We question just how much of the meat and blubber will actually be consumed since the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientist have issued warnings that Faroese people should not eat these products at all due to the high levels of pollutants found in them. Yet they say this is supposed to feed a whole village for the full year? I call bs. This is modern day barbarism. They do not live in harmony with the planet like they paint this picture to be as they slant the context to glamorize it. It’s murder and murder for “profiting/ritualistic” gain. I despise this and if you do too, then what are you waiting for? This has already been floating around the public knowledge for years and has yet to be stopped.  It’s 2020 people, we have the power. We have control over what’s right and wrong and this, is not right. We can change history to ensure a better future.

Is it necessary to mention that acts like this is what leads to the extinction of the Calderons and other species alike? With thousands killed every year, the likelihood of this occurring rapidly increases.. They lure the dolphins in by playing and interacting with them in a way of friendship. Then, leading them to an area closer to shore, they become trapped and are brutally massacred. They don’t die instantly, they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hooks... and at that time the dolphins produce a grim cry like that of a new born child. There’s no compassion while this magnificent creature slowly dies in its own blood.  So, enough with this. It makes my skin crawl and stomach ache to think about. If you’re a human being that believes in justice, then do something about it. We are all connected as one, we all have a power. We all have a voice, SO USE IT and do something about it. Don’t just sit there and wait for something to happen, ignite it!

India has even declared dolphins and whales as 'non human persons' and has banned their captivity and use as public entertainment. What does that tell you about how flexible human decency can be? I used to praise areas of Europe, Denmark, Greenland etc and their ecological, energy and climate progressions however now I snub them all. How can anyone stand by and let horrors like this carry on yet promote a brand suggesting you care about the longevity of our planet?

This ends so it starts with you. Help our beautiful planet and it’s majestic creatures. Come together to end this massacre and save our oceans, one cause at a time. Spread the awareness and don’t let these politicians, media or unions tell you otherwise.

The Prime Minister of Faroe Islands, Bárður á Steig Nielsen and The Ministry of Fisheries aka Føroya Landsstýri, we call on you to ban this cruelty for good and recognize these beautiful beings as non human persons.

Don't just read, like plain viewers. Please SIGN AND FORWARD.
