Pigeons risked their lives for our nation during both World Wars - Pigeons like Cher Ami, Winkie and GI Joe, who served alongside the armed forces and saved thousands of lives.
Trained to fly by night, pigeons could reach speeds of 60 mph. They flew, often wounded, with vital messages attached to their legs, saving soldiers, sailors, airmen and ordinary people in desperate situations. Their courage brought hope to the hopeless and their brilliant reconnaissance and homing skills helped enable the D Day landings to take place.
Today, pigeons are singled out, persecuted and abused. Why?
Pigeon abuse is discrimination.
It discriminates against pigeons.
It discriminates against people who defend pigeons.
We claim the right to be able to visit any park or public place freely - without seeing pigeons being abused - and without being threatened or discriminated against for defending them.
It is time for cruelty to pigeons to be stopped and for our basic Human Right to enjoy parks and public places freely and without discrimination to be fully and effectively restored.
Please see the petition at link below and ask your MP to address this matter in Parliament, as soon as possible. Pigeon abuse has been ignored by MPs for too long. We need to insist that they take action now to outlaw it.
Pigeon abuse affects everybody. It is cruel and unnecessary.
It must be stopped.
Pigeons need effective protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981. This Act is already in place, but is not being enforced. Only then will be able to enjoy parks and public places once again - in an environment which is safe and free from abuse.
It is disgraceful that pigeons are singled out, kicked, chased and persecuted, just for existing.

Please -
Ask the Prime Minister to enforce the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which “protects” all wild birds, including pigeons, from abuse. This Act makes it an offence to harm any wild bird, including pigeons, but is not being enforced.
The Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, Prime Minister

If the Act were enforced, there would be no doubt about whether is OK to let pigeons be kicked, chased and abused.
Ask the Rt Hon Therese Coffey, MP, Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, to outlaw cruelty to pigeons under the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981. Her contact email is below.

Please bring this matter to the attention of your MP. We need a debate in Parliament about pigeon abuse and a full, independent Public Enquiry.
Contact HM The King.
Explain that people, and women in particular, who defend pigeons, are being threatened. The Queen Consort has a particular interest in protecting women from abuse.

Ask the Department for Education to teach children to be kind to pigeons. This should be on the National Curriculum.

Ask the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, founded by Prince William and Kate, to teach children to respect pigeons. What we teach children at an early age stays with them for life.

“In Defence of Pigeons”, by Dr Portugal, describes the plight of pigeons today - a result of the spiteful media campaign against them, which began in 2001. Hitherto, pigeons had been loved as heroes and lifesavers of war.
