Reviled, just for existing.
Maligned in the media.
Excluded from being fed.
This is against the law. Pigeons are “protected” under the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act, but this act is not being enforced, and is ineffective.
Pigeons saved thousands of people in wartime, rescuing soldiers, sailors, airmen and civilians in desperate situations, by bearing messages attached to their legs. They won 32 Dickin Medals for their outstanding service and bravery.
Is abuse their reward?

Ask the Prime Minister to enforce the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which “protects” all wild birds, including pigeons, from abuse. This Act makes it an offence to harm any wild bird, including pigeons, but is not being enforced.

If the Act were enforced, there would be no doubt about whether is OK to let pigeons be kicked, chased and abused.
Pigeon abuse makes parks and public places unsafe, as anyone defending pigeons risks being threatened or attacked. I was threatened for defending a pigeon in a park. It was terrifying.
Please bring this matter to the attention of your MP. We need a debate in Parliament about pigeon abuse and a full, independent Public Enquiry. The current situation is unacceptable.

Ask the Department for Education to teach children to be kind to pigeons. This should be on the National Curriculum.
