The RSPCA has asked for help in protecting animals from cruelty in:-

1. The Act Now for Animals Report, produced by the RSPCA

2. The Kept Animals Bill, to be discussed in Parliament

Neither the Report nor the Kept Animals Bill mentions pigeons, or the need to protect them from abuse, as Sentient Birds, under the law.

Please help -

1. Ask the RSPCA to include pigeons, as sentient birds, in the Act Now for Animals Report.

2. Ask your MP to give pigeons protection under the Kept Animals Bill.

Suggested Points to make to the RSPCA  -

Why are pigeons not included in the Act Now for Animals report?  Please include them. They need help.

Pigeons suffer terribly from abuse in public places, where they are regularly kicked, chased and bullied, and anyone who defends them is threatened.

Pigeons are no threat to human health, as confirmed by vets and the RSPB.

Pigeons have been made scapegoats.  They are gentle and intelligent and  saved thousands of human lives in wartime as messengers, but this fact is deliberately ignored today and people are taught to hate and abuse them.

The abuse of pigeons is unacceptable and undemocratic.  It ruins the enjoyment and safety of parks and public places for many ordinary people - particularly pigeon lovers.

What is the RSPCA doing to defend pigeons?

Stopping pigeon abuse matters.  It matters to the 12,755 people who have signed the petition below. We need your action to get this matter resolved. See Petition link and latest update below.

Hear the song, “Please be Nice to Pigeons”.  There is no need to abuse them, they’ve done nothing wrong, as the song says.

Pigeon guano makes excellent fertiliser, highly prized by organic farmers and gardeners today.  Pigeon houses could provide protection for pigeons, and enable them to have a new role in life, producing guano, for organic fertiliser.  This would give pigeons respect, for helping us all to have a greener future.

Pigeons need protection from abuse!  Please take this seriously and act.

Points to make to your MP

The Kept Animals Bill should include protection for pigeons.

All issues in the Bill deserve attention, but the abuse of pigeons was NOT included. Pigeons need urgent legal protection from abuse which is meted out to them regularly.

Why are pigeons excluded from legal protection? This is unfair. The U.K. cannot claim to be a Nation of Animal Lovers while pigeon abuse continues.  A“Nation of Pigeon Haters” is more appropriate now.

The widespread cruelty to pigeons makes parks and public places unsafe and threatening, especially for people who try to defend pigeons.

See how adversely pigeon abuse affects people’s lives by referring to the comments and reasons for signing our petition. Please read them. The petition link is below.  12,755 people who have signed want abuse of pigeons to be outlawed and stopped.

There is no need to persecute pigeons.  They are innocent.  The abuse is just a habit.

We demand abuse-free parks and public places. This is a basic human right in our democracy today. Nobody should have to fear visiting a park or other public place because of the abuse of pigeons there.

We demand an end to the abuse of pigeons and their protection as sentient birds under the law.
