Threatened for defending pigeons; abused for being kind!

People who defend pigeons from cruelty face threats and verbal abuse in return.

If this happens to you, please consider reporting the incident to police, local authorities, the RSPCA and your MP.  Make sure they know that the safety of people to enjoy parks and public places is under threat.

We must regain our safety and freedom to enjoy parks and public places!  Abuse of pigeons, or any other creature, must never triumph over kindness.

Pigeon abuse has become a habit.  Who will stop it?

Carrier pigeons saved thousands of human lives in wartime, as messengers.  32 pigeons won the PDSA Dickin Medal for their outstanding wartime service and sacrifice.  The first was Winkie, who saved the lives of four airmen whose plane had crashed into the North Sea during WW2. Winkie’s story can be read in my previous Petition updates.

Below are suggestions for helping pigeons to have a better life: -

Prince William and Kate launched The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to “drive awareness of, and action on, the extraordinary impact of the early years, changing what we think and do on early childhood, in order to transform society for generations to come.”

The website link is: royalfoundation.com

1.  Please ask the Royal Foundation Centre to teach children to be kind to all creatures, particularly pigeons.  What we teach children in the early years stays with them.  Respect is the key word here!

2.  Ask the Prime Minister to keep his promise, made on Holocaust Memorial Day, to “fight against ALL forms of hatred and prejudice, wherever they are found” by outlawing pigeon abuse and giving pigeons protection under the law.  No living creature, should be abused.

The Prime Minister, as head of the Conservative party, can be contacted at -

Dear Prime Minister

FIGHTING AGAINST ALL FORMS OF HATRED AND PREJUDICE

Please keep your promise, made on Holocaust Memorial Day to “fight against all forms of hatred and prejudice, wherever they are found” by outlawing and stopping pigeon abuse in parks and public places. Please give pigeons specific protection, as sentient birds and heroes of war, under the Animal Welfare Sentience law and the Action Plan for Animal Welfare.

It is absolutely disgraceful that pigeon abuse continues in our “Nation of Animal Lovers”.  It is incredibly cruel and limits our freedom to enjoy parks and public places.  It also threatens the safety of anyone who tries to defend pigeons.  This is undemocratic and unfair.

4.  Hear the song, “Please be Nice to Pigeons”:-

5.  How can MPs help?  By voting to give pigeons special protection, as sentient birds and our heroes of war, under the new Animal Welfare Sentience laws and Action Plan for Animal Welfare.  Contact your MP at:-

writetothem.com

6.  Contact celebrities, well known personalities, charities and the media to ask for help in promoting this campaign.  I am still waiting to hear from Classic fm, the BBC, Animal Aid and The Imperial War Museum. Please feel free to contact anyone who might help.  I need your voice to speak against the cruelty. I cannot achieve this alone.

7.  Contact the Department for Education and ask them to feature animal welfare, and particularly pigeon welfare, on the National Curriculum for Schools.  Children should learn to respect pigeons and all animals from an early age.  They should also learn of the vital role that pigeons played during both World Wars, as messengers, saving thousands of human lives.  This must never be forgotten.

8.  Contact PETA U.K. and ask them to include pigeons specifically in their campaign to stop Speciesism. They say that they campaign to protect pigeons, but they have refused, yet again, even to mention my petition on their website.  This is extremely unhelpful.
