Pigeon abuse should never be regarded as “acceptable” or “just part of everyday life”. We are, after all, a Nation of Animal Lovers!

Pigeon abuse is Speciesism.

Stopping the abuse starts with a more positive attitude by the general public towards pigeons, remembering that pigeons are life-savers and heroes of war. This could be promoted through the media, describing pigeons’ fantastic attributes. Kindness to pigeons should be encouraged at home and school, by parents and teachers.

The rumour that pigeons are a health hazard must be declared untrue. Pigeon fanciers do not suffer from close contact with pigeons.  This rumour was declared untrue by vets and the RSPB, but has led to pigeon abuse since it was started in 2001.

Remembrance Day Commemorations in November each year should feature carrier pigeons’ heroism.  Pigeons served alongside the armed forces, saving thousands of human lives during both World Wars, as messengers.  They flew with messages, and risked their lives for our freedom. 32 pigeons were awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal for their outstanding wartime service and bravery.

Pigeons should be better represented at the Animals in War Memorial in Park Lane.

Measures for stopping pigeon abuse could include security cameras, increased protection for pigeons in parks, streets and public places and a policy of Zero Tolerance towards pigeon abuse, which is speciesism .

We look forward to visiting parks, gardens and public places without having to see pigeon abuse in action.

We all deserve our parks and other public places to be abuse free!  Is that possible?

How can MPs help?  By recognising pigeon abuse as a problem, which needs to be solved, and giving pigeons special protection under the government’s new Animal Welfare Sentience laws and Action Plan for Animal Welfare.
