Mission
To create awareness of the negative impact data costs are having on students and their education. To become a voice for all school going students in South Africa.

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced our school gates to close but this should not be a reason for education to stop. Many schools have launched online learning platforms in order to continue with the 2020 curriculum as best they can. While these platforms are a great innovative way to continue learning during the pandemic, it does however come with many challenges. With the South African economy crumbling during the pandemic, many parents have lost their jobs or been furloughed. This has had a direct impact on students’ ability to be a part of online learning. Parents are being forced to choose between feeding their children or educating them. We do not believe this is a decision any parent should be forced to make. Education is a basic right and many students across South Africa are no longer able to continue with online learning because of their parents’ financial situations. We believe that internet service providers have benefited hugely from the lockdown as many businesses and households have had to increase their monthly data packages as they work from home. We are appealing to all internet service providers to make data free for all school going students for educational purposes.

 
How you can help

Schools
Watch our #HELPUSLEARN video and challenge your students to create a similar video with pictures of all your students. You are welcome to use our voice note “Dear Mr President” however we encourage your students to create their own “Dear Mr President” speech to go along with your school’s video. The more voices and faces we put to this campaign the better.

Get all your students and parents to sign our petition on our website.
