Stop the creation of deadly viruses from animal markets in China
The issue
Safety for the world from the spread of deadly viruses that cross from an animal species to humans.
China has unleashed on the world a frightening new, highly infectious virus that has never been seen before. This stems from the practice of slaughtering and consuming animals sold at markets. It is clear that viruses of this type from these sources are capable of jumping from the animal to humans with terrifying results. Other examples are Ebola, Swine Fever, SARS and MERS.
Animals and reptiles sold and consumed from these markets are reported as bats, snakes, civets, rats, peacocks, wolf pups, porcupines, salamanders, pangolins, dogs and cats.
As well as the potential to devastate the human population, there is serious damage to biodiversity.
There is a temporary ban in place, but this must be made permanent, and enforced.
We call on the Chinese government NOW to permanently ban the trade of these animals in markets, restaurants and e-commerce sites.
The Chinese government has a responsibility to the rest of the world to ensure that these practices are stopped in perpetuity in order to safeguard the world’s population.
These market practices are inherently unsafe, and must be stopped forever.
