Hello again everyone! The petition is almost at 60,000 signatures! I wanted to let everyone know that the Commission meeting that was scheduled for July 28th has been closed to the public and the loop matter has been taken off the agenda. The city is currently trying to find a location for the meeting that will be open to the public while also following CDC guidelines. This will allow us to voice our opinions on the matter at a later date. Please stay posted on this petition as well as the Dream Green Volusia Facebook page to find out when and where the meeting will be.
There are also some other ideas that have not been talked about to help save the land. A letter with these solutions was printed in the Ormond Beach Newspaper on 7/23 and is also available on their e-newspaper. The ideas are as follows:
1) The buffer along the byway could be enlarged from 175 to 250 feet.
2) Larger lot sizes to save trees and increase property values and larger homes for higher taxes and decreased traffic.
3) Implement 70% native plants to reduce watering needs.
4) Reduce the speed limit near the development.
5) Install a gate at the entrance of the development for emergency vehicles only.
And of course, have the land purchased for conservation. The City of Ormond Beach themselves could purchase a portion of the land, as well as Florida Forever or Trust for Public Land.
Please email the FDOT if you have not already and continue to share! And do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or ideas! We can reach 60,000 signatures and Save the Loop for generations to come! Thank you.
