Just a final message from the petition organisers to thank you for the fantastic support which we got from all parts of the UK and across the world. Many of the comments left on the petition site were truly poignant and moving. We can never know whether our petition and other initiatives to make the emotional case against independence made a difference to the outcome of the vote. But we like to think that the petition gave an opportunity for the ordinary people of the UK to say how much they cared about Scotland and its people, and how much they wanted them to stay in one of the most successful political families that the world has ever seen. Alex Salmond has said this morning that the issue of independence is now off the table for a generation, and possibly a lifetime. This acknowledgement means that the UK has an historic opportunity to improve its governance system to serve all the people of the UK. In that sense, we owe a debt to Scottish voters. Not for the first time, Scotland has highlighted the need for change in our society and has helped to accelerate it. That is just one reason why they are such a valuable member of the family. It is up to all of us now to make sure that politicians do not squander this opportunity.
