The Ontario Ministry of the Environment: Stop Hydro One from building Transformer Station on the Oak Ridges Moraine

The Issue

The Oak Ridges Moraine is known as Southern Ontario's "rain barrel", recharging its deep groundwater systems, supplying the tributaries that feed into Lake Ontario, and providing drinking water for its rural residents. With the Oak Ridges Moraine Act (2001) our Provincial Government pledged to protect this land and its water from future destructive development. On the other hand, our same Provincial Government has now signed off to give Hydro One overriding permission to build a 100 acre Transformer Station directly on the protected Oak Ridges Moraine. However, all Transformer Stations of this type are historically proven to be prone to overheating, exploding, erupting into violent fire, and spilling toxic oil and pollutants on their site lands and the land outside their boundaries. Despite the fact that the Oak Ridges Moraine site is geologically unstable and financially wasteful, Hydro One has yet to consider alternate sites that are available. Building on the Moraine will contaminate its aquifers, poison the drinking water of its residents and wildlife, and pollute its surface waters and soils.

You can learn more about our plight by visiting us on Facebook. Help us to stop Hydro One from constructing their Transformer Station on the Oak Ridges Moraine by insisting that our government uphold their own protective policies. The needs of Ontario's energy can be met by building the Station elsewhere.

You too can voice your concerns by contacting one of the following individuals:
