We will be sending an official request to the moderators at CBS asking that they question the candidates about the Tappan Zee Bridge name change. We will include a variety of articles, editorials, petitions and other supporting info to demonstrate that this issue is very important to many New Yorkers.

TALKING POINTS IF YOU'D LIKE:
Both Cynthia Nixon(D) and Marc Molinaro(R)--both running for governor--have both questioned the manner in which the Governor had the name changed to THE GOV. MARIO M. CUOMO BRIDGE in 2017. Molinaro has already agreed to return the Tappan Zee name to the bridge if he is elected. Nixon has hinted that she would consider doing the same. Let's get Cuomo on the record!
Residents of the Hudson Valley identify strongly with the history and tradition associated with the Tappan Zee name which has defined the region for decades. A petition on change.org was signed by over 110,000 people (and continues to climb) demanding the name be restored was delivered to the Governor in June. He ignored it.
Changing all the signs is an unnecessary waste of taxpayer dollars. And by the way, why is no one is telling us how much it's going to cost? Where's the transparency?
People don't like politicians naming things after themselves (or their family members) without asking the voters how they feel about it first. The bridge was bought and paid for by the voters, not by Gov. Cuomo.
Compromise legislation that would name the bridge "The Gov. Mario M. Cuomo /Tappan Zee Bridge" was introduced in early 2018 and passed the Senate 40-20 in June with Democratic support. The assembly version of the bill was prevented from moving out of committee. WHAT IS GOVERNOR CUOMO'S OBJECTION TO THIS COMPROMISE??
The TAPPAN ZEE name is historic, it pre-dates the founding of our country: the "Tappan Zee Bay" was the site one of the first naval battles of the Revolutionary War.
The name honors the first inhabitants of the Hudson Valley, the "Tappan" Native American tribe and "Zee" honors the Hudson Valley's early Dutch settlers ("Zee" means "sea" in Dutch).
Historical societies of the Hudson Valley have either passed resolutions or endorsed statements of support for preserving the Tappan Zee name.
Assembly members and Senators on both sides of the aisle have been bombarded by angry constituents demanding that the name be restored.
Please forward this to friends and family! There are many issues of importance to New Yorkers, this is just one. If we don't make some noise, the issue will be overlooked so please call or write CBS TODAY!
THANKS!!!!
