Guess what? WE NOW HAVE A REAL CHANCE TO SAVE THE BRIDGE'S TAPPAN ZEE NAME! Yup! There is now a matching bill in both the Senate AND the Assembly to rename the bridge: The Governor Mario Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge!! Why do we support this name? It's a fair compromise that has the best likelihood of actually happening. And the language of both bills ensures that the signs do NOT change! All we need to do now is MAKE SURE THE SENATE AND THE ASSEMBLY VOTE ON THE BILLS, and vote YES! We have a short window of time. About seven weeks. We have until June 20th. That's when the senate and assembly go on vacation for the summer. So... RIGHT NOW is the time to call, email, and write to express your support of the bill, and help others to do the same as well. Not next week. Not next month. TODAY. Best part? We at Save Our Tappan Zee have made it very easy for you: I've updated the website with a LOT of stuff for you to do, as follows: 1. You can download a flyer to distribute to everyone you know 2. You can download a pre-written letter to send to every senator and assemblyman/woman in New York (and a link to all emails and addresses and phone numbers is provided) 3. You can copy the text of the letter and email it to the Assembly and Senate 4. You can purchase full-color business-sized action cards to hand out at parties and at work (and to perfect strangers at the mall)--beautifully designed by our board member Christopher McCormick. Please buy these and give them out to EVERYONE YOU MEET, ACROSS THE COUNTRY. 5. You can sign up for one of our upcoming protest events (I have six planned for May and June, so please, come help us out!) 6. You can purchase other promotional merchandise like posters, signs, stickers, and more to show your support in your town 7. You can donate to the cause and we'll use the money to purchase additional cards, stickers, posters, etc. to give away and to ensure this fight doesn't end until we've won WE NEED THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO CALL, EMAIL, AND WRITE LETTERS IN THE NEXT SIX WEEKS. Now it's up to the senate and the assembly to put it to a vote. But if they don't know how you feel, they may vote 'No'.
