Assemblyman Kevin Byrne has written a bill to return the Tappan Zee name to the bridge, reverting it to its prior name. This is a step in the right direction. But writing a bill does not necessarily mean it will pass. I’ve been thinking about this a lot. If the bill is introduced, and fails, and we (the people) did nothing to help ensure that it passes, then shame on us. We are at a precipice. This is not just about a “bridge name”. It’s about whether we the people are willing to stand up to corruption, and stand up for what we fought our independence for in 1776. What the governor and the politicians who did this are guilty of is precisely why we threw off our British chains many centuries ago: to avoid monarchical rule with zero checks and balances. Well, people, guess who the checks and balances are? We are. You are. If you think the politicians are just going to vote for this new bill without a constant reminder of who we are and what we stand for, you are possibly totally mistaken. True: they MAY return the bridge name on their own. The politicians in Albany. The Governor. But... they may not. And if they don’t, and we didn’t fight, then we have no one to blame for what happens next: politicians around the state and country will know that THE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE. And next will be the GW and the Statue of Liberty. Please, show that we care. You can help support the fight at www.GoFundMe.com/SaveTheTappanZee We NEED to raise tens of thousands of dollars. We need the billboards. We need the advertisements in newspapers. We need the T-shirts, bumper stickers, and regular media appearances. This all costs money. And extraordinary amounts of hard work. Please, show that you really DO care. You can help support the fight at www.GoFundMe.com/SaveTheTappanZee -Monroe
