Hey Tappan Zee-ers! I was just interviewed on your behalf by: -News12 out of Westchester -CBS2 out of NYC -NY Public Radio Tune in tonight at 4:30 and 5pm on News12, and 6pm on CBS News. Thank you for choosing me as a representative of your cause—I hope I am doing a good job. If you have feedback for me, please let me know so I can improve. That being said, ee are up to 42,000 signers now! And I think the numbers are only going to grow! Keep on spreading the word! I also want to reach out to Mr./Ms. Troy who felt I was turning this petition into a political name changing tit for tat: I agree with all you wrote. The interview I gave the Journal News lasted over 30 minutes but a mere two sentences of what I said appeared in the article. So the article unfortunately did not truly express precisely what I said. Number one, this is about history. History trumps politics. This particular petition is about restoring the Tappan Zee name to the bridge. Ideally, it should not have any person’s name prepended, from either party. It’s the Tappan Zee and should honor the Tappan and the Dutch. Case closed. The Tappan Zee Bridge name is wholly inoffensive. It is a name that bridge traversers from all political parties and all walks of life can be proud of. It is OUR bridge (i.e. all Americans, all New Yorkers) and therefore the name must represent us all. You mention that you hope the petition is simply to restore the reference to history rather than turning a name change into a political tit for tat. But alas, the legislature already did that. It appears that for political reasons, the historical bridge name was scrapped in favor of someone whose historical importance has not yet been determined. Just so we are clear, I want the original name back for historical reasons. If they can compromise and call it the Governors Cuomo/Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge, fine. As long as the bridge is still legally known as the Tappan Zee Bridge. We just want our bridge name back! I hope this helps clarify. And thanks for speaking up. I value your opinion because this petition has your name on it, and as your spokesman, I want to be sure that I don’t betray the reason you signed it. -Monroe
