The Issue

The National Education Support Staff (NESS) Campaign aims to raise awareness and advocate for the rights and recognition of ALL school support staff and non-teaching Schools Business Leaders. These professionals play a crucial role in the daily operations of schools and their contributions are essential to the overall success and functioning of the education system. This campaign seeks to bring equality, and positive changes to improve the working conditions and job satisfaction of support staff. It also serves as a means of giving these valuable individuals a voice and ensuring they receive the recognition and respect they deserve.  Even though a DFE support staff working group has been formed we want prompt action.

1. Advocate for equal recognition and respect for leadership support staff, regardless of their job titles or positions.  Enhanced mandatory training in the SBM/COO/CFO roles for New Heads and Deputies.

2. Advocate for fair wages, prompt pay awards and benefits for support staff in order to improve their quality of life.

3. Increase the awareness of the importance and value of support staff in education.

4. Promote the professional growth and development of support staff through training and educational opportunities.

5. Create a platform for support staff to share their experiences and challenges in the workplace.  Free of charge. 

6. Make mandatory requirements for schools to implement policies and practices that support the well-being and job satisfaction of support staff.

7. Collaborate with other schools and agencies to address issues and concerns faced by support staff on a national level.

8. Promote diversity and inclusion in the support staff community.

9. Highlight the crucial role that support staff play in the success of schools.  Recognise those successes nationally. 

10. Encourage individuals to consider a career in support staff roles and provide sufficient resources and time for professional development and job opportunities.
