The National Boycott for Human Rights: Defending Roe through a United Consumer Front

The Issue

To the frustrated Americans. To those who value human rights. The rights for everyone to make their own decisions about their body. The rights of non-straight people to love, marry, and live in peace. The rights of all Americans to pursue happiness. And the rights of the people to be afforded as much freedom, independence, and dignity as the most powerful corporations, politicians, and class extremists in our country.

Overview: The National Boycott for Human Rights is a direct action response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade. It’s a call for American consumers to boycott all major corporations headquartered in anti-choice states until they move their headquarters, or until the states allow safe and legal abortions for their residents.

* Call to Action:

Starting July 4th, 2022, we will demonstrate our collective power. And we do it in a way that’s never been seen before. In a way that's confrontational, focused, and impossible to ignore. In a way that will force every abortion restrictive state to secure abortion rights for their citizens, or else suffer an extreme loss of capital. And in a way that establishes a consumer front that will use, repeat, and enhance this model to free Americans from the oppressive choices of the corrupt or the extreme.

No longer will voting or temporary marches be the go to solution to our problems. No longer will we put the fate of our rights in the hands of the inactive and the manipulative. No longer will we let corporations wield the power of political influence through our economy while we ignore the fact that we are a consumer-fueled economy. And no longer will we live in a country that consistently puts private capital over human rights and popular opinion.

Here’s our reality: For decades, the most powerful figures have built a legislative environment where corporations headquartered in individual states have the power to influence the national legislature granted through unpopular Supreme Court decisions like Citizens United. But now, in order to protect our individual rights and liberties, we will exercise the power of nationally united consumers granted to us by the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

And when your worried neighbor, frustrated relative, or terrified friend who feels like their freedoms are being stripped away asks how we can protect our rights from extremists - we will give the answer:

“Join the National Boycott for Human Rights.”

** How to be part of the National Boycott:
By joining the boycott, you, as an individual, are choosing action over submission.

  • Sign the Petition!
By signing this petition, you are declaring that you will, to the best of your ability, completely boycott the biggest corporations that are headquartered in most abortion restrictive states.
You will also refuse to pursue new employment from these major corporations, and refuse to pursue higher education from public institutions within those states.
  • Creatively Share through Social Media
Aside from sharing this petition, you can support this cause by creating digital posters, slideshows, memes, hashtags, etc. to spread on social media and generate awareness of the boycott. Your voice can make a huge impact!

  • Make your voice heard
Make it clear to these corporations and state officials why you are boycotting and what policy will end your personal boycott. You can send letters, leave comments on the company's social media pages, or, if you're cancelling a membership, explain the boycott directly over the phone or by email. Keep in mind, working-class employees are not to blame for the CEOs headquartering or donation decisions. Often times, they are equally supportive of human rights.

**** Overall:

This won't be easy. There will be many inconveniences. But this never-before-seen form of national protest, directed at the pocket books of states and their most powerful companies, can transform the country.

Some of these corporations have a major foothold in our day-to-day life. But standing for love, privacy, mutual aid, and reproductive freedom, the voice of  united consumers will be impossible to ignore.

And on July 4th, a day rightly recognized as Independence Day, we will spark a movement where the American people unite as consumers to restore their power and protect human rights from the corrupt and extreme few.

The National Boycott for Human Rights is not run by any organization or labor union. It is a movement shared by the people, for the people.
