If a person is considered an adult at 18 years of age to Vote, join the military, enter into a legally binding contract, drop out of school, sit on a jury, moving out on their own, etc.   Then the age should be legally 18.  It makes no sense when you allow them to do all of these things but then state that a parent is responsible for them until they turn 19.
