The Kennel Club have finally responded to the concerns of 1700 Cavalier owners and lovers with a Press Release that fails to acknowledge in any way the distress & suffering of Cavalier owners and their dogs.
In their response to this petition they say they will not force breeders to health check but urge pet owners to scan and provide health information instead.
You may want to read the KC answer for yourself. You will find a link on the response section at the top of this page. It is very long-winded but basically they are just saying NO. It is not that the KC cannot restrict the registration of non-health tested parents. They make their own rules and they have refused registration in other breeds. They are choosing not to do anything.
Petition signers have already provided 32 pages explaining why a healthy future for Cavaliers is important to them. Those comments have all been ignored. I do hope that you will use the discussion section to say what you think about the dismissal of pet owner concerns and the Kennel Club's attempt to shuffle the breeders’ responsibility for providing health data on to the people who are already left to care for the sick dogs
Cavaliers are special, the ultimate family companion, but their registration numbers have fallen by half in five years. This is a special breed but it suffers from horrific health problems. The Kennel Club should be considering what special measures they could be putting into place to save our lovely dogs.
