Tomorrow a little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel called Beebee and her owner, Charlotte Mackaness, are appearing live on BBC Radio Four’s programme You & Yours. Please do get in touch with the show to tell them of your experiences of Cavalier health. You can email youandyours@bbc.co.uk or Tweet @BBCRadio4 using the hashtag #youandyours The show starts at 12.15pm.   Beebee is four years old, although she looks much older now that severe Syringomyelia ( SM ) has taken a cruel toll of her little body.  She first appeared on the show in April 2015 when Charlotte talked about the Cavalier health petition and her experiences of losing her first Cavalier, Kitty, to the inherited heart condition MVD at eight years old and then a few months later receiving the devastating news that Beebee, who was just two, had SM.   Nearly 30,000 people have signed the Cavalier health petition asking for health tests to be made mandatory but nothing has changed for these special little dogs in the two years since the last programme. Despite assurances from the Kennel Club and some promising-sounding initiatives that have either failed to materialise or floundered because of a lack of take-up from breeders, Cavaliers continue to suffer in far higher numbers than any other breed from SM and MVD.   In November there was a brief flash of hope when the Kennel Club announced the launch of an official heart scheme based on a hugely successful Danish scheme. However, a meeting with Cavalier clubs health representatives in January has seen the KC back peddling and instead announcing yet another working party to look into Cavalier hearts. It would appear the promised official Cavalier heart scheme has been abandoned before even starting.   Never has it been more important to make your voice heard. If you want a healthier future for these loyal and loving little dogs please help us by sharing your views and experiences with the You and Yours team at the BBC.
