Condemn the normalizing of violence against Palestinians in NJ "satirical" piece
The Issue
DEMAND that Jewish Link print an apology for publishing a piece promoting “100,000 Palestinians shot by Israeli soldiers”
“After all the Arabs are shot once, we look forward to shooting them a second time…”
The NJ Chapter of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP-NJ) calls on the Jewish Link to publish an apology and commitment to not publish pieces that promote violence against the Palestinian people, such as its recent piece, “100,000 Palestinians shot by Israeli soldiers.”
In an unwise attempt at satire, the piece noted that Israel would dispense the vaccine to Palestinians via doses “injected by an elite unit of Israeli soldiers.” At a time where the International Criminal Court has launched an investigation partially into Israel’s military conduct toward Palestine and the Palestinian people, it is unacceptable to accept the normalization of said atrocities. Israel’s systemic abuse of Palestinians, including extrajudicial executions, is well documented, and NOT a joke.
History and current events prove that when a society normalizes acts of violence against a people, an increase of violence and disregard against the group follows closely. In addition to direct violence against Palestinians, Israel has promoted violence against the Palestinian people by creating steep barriers to Palestinian vaccination. COVID-19 is not satirical, and neither is Israel’s murder of the Palestinian people.
AMP-NJ asks that community members of conscience stand against this rhetoric by demanding an apology and commitment to not normalize or promote violence against the Palestinian people. Lastly AMP-NJ demands that the Jewish Link to publish an AMP-NJ authored letter to the editor on the topic of barriers to/responsibility of vaccination of Palestinians.
