The Human Cost of Neglect: Demand Respect, Safety, and Justice for Heeseung and ENHYPEN
The Issue
For many ENGENEs, ENHYPEN isn’t just a group—it’s home. Their music, their growth, their struggles, and their victories have been part of our lives since the very beginning. Watching the group navigate extreme challenges without proper protection or support has been heartbreaking, and it has become painfully clear that BELIFT LAB has consistently prioritized profit over the well-being of the very artists who built their empire. ENGENEs speak out not to create conflict but because we love and care for the members deeply, and because their safety, dignity, and creative freedom are at stake.
The mistreatment began long before ENHYPEN debuted. During I-LAND, the survival show that formed the group, the members—most of whom were minors—faced isolation, extreme pressure, and constant surveillance. Sleep deprivation, emotional stress, and relentless expectations were normalized as “preparation,” but the reality was trauma. Trainees were cut off from their families, forced to perform while anxious and exhausted, and pressured to conform to impossible standards. Leaks and interviews from Ni-ki, Jay, Sunghoon, Jungwon, and others have revealed the severity of the conditions they endured, from staying awake for over 30 hours to sneaking into bathrooms just to access a single tablet connected to Mnet’s Wi-Fi. These experiences were not just stressful—they were unsafe and dehumanizing.
Even after debut, ENHYPEN continued to face neglect and danger. Within days of forming, the members were mobbed by sasaeng fans at airports, with little to no security provided by BELIFT LAB. Videos show members being pushed, blocked, and even crushed, particularly Ni-ki, a minor at the time, forced to navigate unsafe crowds with inadequate protection. Over the years, incidents like Sunghoon running from stalkers at an airport and Jake collapsing on stage due to exhaustion have proven that the company has consistently failed to ensure their physical safety. The pattern of neglect is systemic, not occasional, and it demonstrates a disregard for the very human lives at the heart of their business.
The emotional and mental toll on the members has been equally severe. Sunoo has faced repeated aggression from staff, from having his personal space invaded to being humiliated in front of others. Rumors, manipulation, and selective erasure have created a hostile environment where members are discouraged from expressing themselves authentically. The pressure to perform despite exhaustion, injury, or illness has been relentless, leaving visible signs of fatigue and emotional strain. This is not the normal stress of being an idol—it is a continuous violation of human dignity.
Heeseung’s experience demonstrates the human cost of BELIFT LAB’s negligence. Once a confident, passionate, and expressive performer, and someone who used to be super excited about showing off his solo projects, recent fancalls (March 22 and March 30) and appearances show him drained, hesitant, and restrained, reflecting the emotional and mental toll he has endured. Despite being unexpectedly removed from ENHYPEN, he was still required to participate in promotions and fan interactions specific to ENHYPEN's recent extended play, THE SIN:VANISH while trying to balance solo activities, which proves BELIFT only, limiting his ability to rest, recover, and pursue solo projects freely. Heeseung has expressed that he doesn’t even know what his upcoming solo album will be about or when it will be released, highlighting the lack of support and guidance he has received. His energy, creative expression, and well-being have been constrained by mismanagement, overwork, and public scrutiny, making it clear that the company’s negligence has tangible consequences for both him and the group.
Legally, BELIFT LAB has failed in its responsibilities. Korean law, including the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act, guarantees freedom, health, and dignity for artists under contract. Ni-ki, as a minor, should have received special protection against overwork, yet the group’s schedule has consistently violated these protections, but even the elder members didn't receive protection or respect, so how would he?The aggressive treatment of Sunoo, the forced performances while injured, and the lack of security during public appearances are clear breaches of both ethical and legal standards. Instead of ensuring the safety and well-being of ENHYPEN, the company has prioritized profit over humanity.
ENHYPEN and Heeseung deserve:
Safety from harassment and dangerous situations
Adequate security at all times
Reasonable schedules with proper rest
Support for physical and mental health
Freedom to express themselves authentically
Dignity, fairness, and equal treatment
Transparent and honest communication
It is time for BELIFT LAB to be held accountable for years of neglect and mistreatment. ENGENEs and fans across the world are demanding safety, respect, and creative freedom for Heeseung and ENHYPEN. Supporting the group means speaking up, refusing to normalize abuse, and insisting that the company act responsibly. ENHYPEN have given everything to their art, their fans, and their company—now it is time for BELIFT LAB to give them the care, respect, and transparency they deserve.
ENGENEs aren’t trying to start fights or create drama—we love ENHYPEN deeply and only want what’s best for them. We are asking for clarity, transparency, and honest explanations from BELIFT LAB about the decisions that have affected Heeseung and the group. Our concern comes from a place of care: we want the members to feel safe, supported, and respected in their work and personal lives but we want OT7 back—so that Heeseung can reunite with the rest of ENHYPEN and continue making music, sharing joy, and growing together with the full group. This isn’t about conflict; it’s about protecting the people we love and ensuring the group can thrive as one, united family.
