THE HAYSHED Seaford Arts and Recreation Centre
The issue
The Seaford substation, now known by many as 'The Hayshed' is a large heritage structure located in the suburb of Seaford, right next to the local RSL and a short walk from Seaford Station and the Seaford Community Centre. This structure has been abandoned for over 70 years, inside the structure is a massive multi-level space fitted with catacomb like pathways, balconies and rooms. This structure has been used by many as a street art Hotspot and gets broken into regularly.

With the reconstruction of Seaford station about to commence in 2027 we are proposing that alongside the reconstruction of Seaford Station that the power structure facing the south side of the old Seaford Substation be demolished and to start the construction inside of the abandoned Seaford substation to make way for The Hayshed 'Seaford Arts and Recreations Centre' This centre would be made into a museum showing the history of The Hayshed, add to the street art scene and have the ability to host youth art therapy programs. The Hayshed can also be used as a venue for live music and socializing adding to Seaford's music scene. With the power structure gone there would be a clear view of the centre from Seaford Station and it would open up room for a clear entrance path and space for parking and a joint Community Market alongside the RSL. The possibilities are endless, the centre would pay for itself and benefit the community, and we want the community to get behind this idea.

Inside the structure there is quite a lot of debris and safety hazards, the structure gets broken into quite often by young children and it seems no matter how hard the council tries to keep people out a way is always made to enter the structure. The Hayshed needs to be cleared of debris and all major safety and fall hazards so we can then get inside and start having the discussion of what we can do with the structure and what it could become, instead of sitting abandoned lets create something that would greatly benefit the community of Seaford and have a positive impact on the Arts culture of Melbourne. Let's change our community.

We want to take this petition, along with a detailed plan on how we can achieve constructing this centre, while keeping the heritage attributes, to the Frankston City Council.
Please SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION if you would like the Seaford Substation (The Hayshed) be constructed into The Hayshed-Seaford Arts and Recreations Centre
