Stop Rick Perry from shutting down the WHP
130,000+ Texas women use this program to get basic women's wellness checks including pap smears, breast exams, birth control, ect. Without this program many women would lose access to their only form of healthcare. This includes many women who also take birth control for medical reasons such as pmdd,pcos,ect..and also many women who otherwise would not be able to afford insurance to cover basic women's health such as cervical cancer screenings and birth control.
Planned parenthood helps 44% of women on the women's health program. To lose this program/end it's affilation would leave nearly half of women on the plan without a place to go, a place they have relied on. The state is talking about "state's rights" to choose the providers for this plan, but this only limit's women's right to choose the healthcare provider they want.
- Texas Governor
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Keep the Texas Women's Health Program.
Stop trying to shut down the women's health program
130,000+ Texas women use this program to get basic women's wellness checks including pap smears, breast exams, birth control, ect. Without this program many women would lose access to their only form of healthcare.
Not only will 130,000 women lose healthcare, but women who will need it will not have anywhere else to turn. I have to also ask you why now you are turning your back on cervical cancer after your attempts in the past to mandate immunizations for hpv and you argued in favor for it on the stance of it "preventing cancer". However, now you are cutting the women of Texas off from cervical cancer screenings?
Please do not shut down the women's health program. Please so not cite "state's rights" as an excuse to shut down the program or to limit providers. Women should be able to choose their provider.
