I lost my son in 2018 at just a day old, due to problems believed to have been caused by chicken pox, in which I contracted whilst 12 weeks pregnant. 
Although the NHS website states that if you have had chicken pox before, you will not contract them again, this isn’t always true. Some of us do not have the anti bodies and can contract chicken pox multiple times. at your midwife appointment you will be asked if you d had chicken pox, if you say yes, it will automatically be assumed that you are immune.
If I had received a screening (blood test) then it would have shown I was not immune and I could have been given a VZIG, which is essentially an immune system booster which could have prevented me from contracting chicken pox in the first place, and saved my son. 
Losing Arlo is the greatest heartbreak I have ever endured and if I can prevent just one mother from going through what our family has, it’ll mean the world. 

I would like all expectant mothers to be offered the blood test to check their chicken pox immunity in the hope that this will save an innocent babies life and another family from utter heartbreak.
