Good afternoon:
To date, almost 25,000 people worldwide have signed a petition to the Thai government to take steps to relocate a suffering baby elephant named Gluay Hom to a sanctuary. And to pass legislation to safeguard the rights of others like him. They express shock that he remains in the hands of his abusers and vow never to visit Thailand as long as cruelty to animals is widely tolerated and animals are made to suffer for the entertainment of tourists. The story is everywhere and will only continue to gain momentum. Once a person sees the image of this broken, bleeding animal, at the Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo it is not possible to forget or to walk away.
The Thai SPCA website https://thaispca.org/?page_id=61&lang=en states that the Long Term Objective of the Thai SPCA is the "stopping of animal cruelty in Thailand” and that your plan to do this is by implementing a pilot project, "The National Campaign Against Cruelty to Animals in Thailand “. You further state that one of your key strategies is to promote an Animal Adoption and Re-Home Programme.
What better way to put your principles and objectives into practice than to expose this cruelty, remove suffering Gluay Hom to a sanctuary and publicly punish his abusers?
On behalf of the thousands of caring people from all countries of the world who have signed – and continue to sign—the petition, I respectfully ask the good people at the Thai SPCA to advise us what practical steps would need to be taken to remove Gluay Hom from Samut Prakan and relocate him to a sanctuary. Does a petition need to be submitted to the courts? Does a police complaint need to be filed? Whatever needs to happen needs to happen immediately before the elephant perishes from sheer misery and neglect.
If the Thai SPCA would agree to work as partners with us, I will commit to doing all I can to raise the necessary funds to buy the elephant, transport him to a sanctuary and then fund his life there. I am posting a copy of this email on change.org, so that the thousands of supporters of this petition stay informed – we are here to support and help you do what we all know is the right thing to do.
