Thank you to all compassionate people worldwide who have reacted with horror and outrage to the terrible condition of this helpless baby elephant.I have requested the following information from a Thai humanitarian organization which offered an update on the situation. Here are my questions. I will keep you all posted when I receive answers. 

1. First and foremost about the welfare of Baby Kluay Hom. You (agency representative) state that “some organizations did visit KluayHom and told us that KluayHom is better.” That is very good news! If you would please provide me with contact information for those organizations, I will request some specific information about whether he has been treated by a vet, as well as photographic evidence of what “better” actually is. 

2. Removal of Kluay Hom to a sanctuary. Any creature who has suffered this way deserves to be confiscated from its owners, treated at the Elephant Hospital and then taken to a refuge or Sanctuary. If you can advise me who might be the decision maker on this matter, I will be glad to contact them and begin the process of petition/paperwork/fundraising – whatever it takes.

3, You mention that Thailand has a “law against cruelty and abuse” as well as “laws protecting wild elephants and the elephants in captivity.” Judging by the terrible condition of this four year old elephant the Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo has clearly violated these laws over and over again without any penalty.  Who then is responsible for filing a formal complaint?  Who actually adjudicates? Who enforces this law?  How near death does an animal need to be to be removed from the custody of its abusers?

I am happy to hear that (your agency) has sought assistance from the Thai SPCA. Is there a contact there who might be able to give me updates on the matter which I can then share with the thousands of people around the world who are waiting and watching to see how the Thai authorities will respond?  If (your agency) is not in a position to provide this information, would you please be so kind as to connect me with those who will?
