The Foxland Harbor Marina is back, and this tells you exactly what is at stake on November 3.

Yesterday, Friends of Old Hickory Lake alerted its members that developer Bob Goodall has contacted Gallatin’s planning and codes departments and is preparing to move forward. We believe he has been waiting out the election, betting on a city council and a mayor that will wave his project through.

That bet pays off only if we let it.

This is the pattern, not the exception.

The marina is one project. Project Phoenix is another. The problem is a city government that keeps saying yes to developers and leaving residents with the bill:

• more traffic on roads that are already at capacity;
• more rooftops approved with no real plan for roads, schools, water, or emergency services; and
• taxpayers covering infrastructure costs that developers should be paying.

The city council votes on rezonings, permits, and development agreements. Gallatin is also rewriting its zoning code for the first time in nearly 30 years.

We have candidates who will fight for us.

Johnnie Anderson for Mayor, Bart Bagsby for Ward 3, and John Belman for Ward 4 have each signed the Compact With The People of Gallatin. They have committed in writing to pause runaway development, make developers pay their fair share, and restore ethical, transparent government.

Good candidates do not win on good intentions. They win on mail, signs, door-knocking, and getting in front of voters before early voting starts October 14.
