The Dusty Gray Law. Justice for Cats: Amend Dangerous Dogs Act to Protect Feline Lives

The Issue

As read on Daily Mirror and My London news...

On 3/9/23, my beloved cat Dusty was brutally murdered and mauled to pieces by two unattended dogs. He was a family member and gave his life up trying to save his children. My mother found his body.

Just a month prior, on 11/08/23, the same two dogs killed my friend's cat Gray. Shockingly, no punishment was given to the dog owner responsible for these tragedies, allowing these dangerous dogs to roam freely and potentially harm more innocent cats.

Dusty and Grey were both family members, who gave so much joy to their families and did not want much but love. They have both left a huge hole in our hearts.

We call upon lawmakers and authorities to amend the Dangerous Dogs Act to include stricter measures against dog owners whose pets attack and kill cats. It is essential that we protect our feline friends from such horrific acts of violence.

The proposed amendments are as follows:

1. Immediate Removal of Dogs: When a dog attacks or kills a cat, it should be immediately removed from its owner's custody. This will prevent further harm while ensuring the safety of other animals in the area.

2. Lifetime Pet Ownership Ban: Dog owners found guilty of their pets attacking or killing cats should face a lifetime ban on owning any pets or animals in the future. This will serve as a deterrent and protect potential future victims.

3. Compensation for Cat Owners: A fine payable by the dog owner should be imposed as compensation for the affected cat owner's family. This financial penalty will help alleviate some of the emotional distress caused by such tragic events.

4. Enforcement and Imprisonment: If a banned dog owner ignores their prohibition order and continues to own pets or animals, they should face imprisonment as an additional consequence for their disregard of public safety measures.

By implementing these amendments into law, we can ensure justice is served for our feline companions who have suffered at the hands of irresponsible pet owners and their dangerous dogs.

Facts & Statistics:
1) According to The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), there has been a significant increase in dog attacks on cats in recent years, highlighting the urgent need for stronger legislation to protect feline lives.

2) The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 currently focuses primarily on dog attacks against humans, neglecting the alarming frequency of dog attacks on cats.

3) A study conducted by Cats Protection revealed that over 1,000 cats were killed or injured by dogs in a single year. These numbers emphasize the severity of the issue and demand immediate action to prevent further harm.

We urge you to sign this petition and stand together to amend the Dangerous Dogs Act. Let us ensure that cat owners receive justice for their beloved companions and create a safer environment for all animals within our communities.

Together, we can make a difference and protect innocent lives from unnecessary violence.
