The College Board’s mission statement includes, “The College Board is committed to the principles of equity and excellence and that commitment is embodied in all of its programs, services, activities, and concerns.” Students all across the country take the SATs, PSATs, APs, and apply to colleges every year. Many students do not identify as either male or female and fall elsewhere on the gender spectrum. Having to select their gender as one of the two is uncomfortable and leaves many feeling ostracized. Having a “Non-binary” option on the College Board tests and applications would recognize and include all students and gender expressions. The term "Non-binary" can be used as an umbrella term for many other genders, including genderfluid, genderqueer, agender, etc. We are requesting that the College Board modify its identification forms to provide total gender equality and enable all students to feel comfortable while participating in the college-prep process.
