STOP West Bank Development of the Bike Lane Project

The Issue

The citizens of the West Bank who live and work within the defined areas impacted by the recent Moving New Orleans Bikes (MNOB) Program demand city officials stop the current progress of the Bike Lane project.

The project, which has already been implemented on the corners of Holiday Drive and General DeGaulle Drive did not take long to create massive amounts of daily road congestion during peak morning and evening commute drive times. Similarly, the implementation of converting MacArthur Blvd. into a one lane roadway has also resulted in heavy traffic delays for those living on the West Bank and commuting to the East Bank on a daily basis.

Before this project can continue further, we ask the city, the Office of the Mayor, the New Orleans Department of Public Works and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to dedicate additional resources to the study of traffic patterns and commuter habits specifically as they relate to the Algiers area on the West Bank of New Orleans before any further progress of the Bike Lane project is completed.
