Stop the Short-Sighted Proposed Development in Centerville

The Issue

The City of Centerville is voting In one week to finalize plans for upcoming city development that would be built off of Main Street and 21st street. They were only required to notify residents within 350ft of the upcoming zoning changes that would lead to future development, so there were thousands of residents who may not be informed or have yet to be heard.

On Monday, April 26th the city met with residents who were within 350ft and nearly all residents who spoke were not in favor of the apartment building as well as the others proposed plans, yet the council still chose to move forward with code changes and development approval.

The following proposals are in the process of being voted on and the city council has already shown overwhelming support to move forward.

UPCOMING BUSINESSES:

Plan:  A 103 UNIT 4-STORY APARTMENT BUILDING across from the bus stop (currently it is listed as "luxury") but there is no law against re-classifying it to another type of residence.

Common Concerns:  More road traffic that would diminish safety for children crossing the street. A unnecessarily LARGE towering structure. The inability to fill it with tenants and the possibility of too many vacancies.

Solution: Request that the city council vote against the apartment building and the residential rezoning. Alternatively, request the limitation of 2 or 3 stories and reduced size. Currently the developer has all the leverage and is not willing to reduce size.

---

Plan: Allowing for another gas station with a car wash. Kwik-Trip is the intended developer.

Common Concerns: This could potentially put the other three gas stations out of business and in turn put long standing local business owners in jeopardy. Exponentially increased 24/7 traffic as well as noise from diesel trucks and the carwash. Increased safety concerns because of increase in traffic. There is already a Kwik-Trip 1.3 miles away.

Solution: Vote down the Kwik-Trip proposals, the community does not need or want it.

--

Plan: A senior living center

Common Concerns: There is one already being built off of main street.

I am a local resident in the Watermark neighborhood. I have strong concerns regarding these plans and whether or not the city is acting in our best interest, the interest of Centerville residents, and family who had hoped to be long standing members of the community.
