Counter petition - Save the statue of Sir. John A. Macdonald in Montreal

Recently a petition has circulated to remove the statue of Canada’s first Prime Minister – at best, this will result in simple revisionist history….
John A. Macdonald had a political career that spanned almost 50 years and he served as Prime Minister for about 19 of those years.
He lived in a different time – people thought differently on many issues; – education was limited; communications compared to today was non-existent; and until he managed to build the railway – transportation didn’t really exist. Macdonald pushed to build the railway and without it there would basically be no Canada.
Can one “cherry-pick” his accomplishments and find fault within a 50-year career especially when compared to 2020 – of course, he was not perfect.
However, taking down his statue will never remove his greatest legacy – the building of a foundation for one of the best countries in the world – Canada.
